PANJIM: Seven children lodged at Apna Ghar for care and protection have tested positive for COVID-19.

The authorities said these children are asymptomatic and undergoing treatment in the institution.

Sources said that all the children were tested for the virus after a child from Madhya Pradesh lodged at the centre, was taken for test before being repatriated to unite with his family, tested positive for the disease.

The other boys of the same group were thereafter tested positive after which all the children were sent for testing.

Director Deepali Naik said that the children are under medical supervision within the institution and are asymptomatic. Caretaker of this unit has been quarantined until his report is released by the doctors.

The underage girls, in need of care and protection, have tested negative for the virus giving a sigh of relief to the authorities.

Sources said that the authorities had planned a picnic for children last Friday which was later called off following COVID-19 scare at the facility. It is learnt that eight inmates were tested positive around last weekend after which others were sent for the testing.

An intern, who allegedly showed signs of COVID-19 prior to the present incident, is monitored for its health.
